Solamînt els Fätsilors: a Timeline of Talossan History-from foundation to 1990

NOTE: Dates are given in the Gregorian calendar (numerals), the year of Talossa (miniscule Roman) and the year of the Republic (majuscule Roman).

1965 Robert Ben Madison born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Harry Madison and Jean Madison (née Matters).

1979 February: Jean Madison dies.

26 December: In the presence of his family and friend Dixhêt Conâ, Robert Ben Madison founds the "Kingdom of Talossa", the original territory of which consists of his bedroom, becoming King Robert I.

1980/i King Robert founds Talossa's first newspaper, Støtanneu.

Fellow students Art Verbotten, Ián Metáirâ and Dixhêt Conâ all copy Madison's bedroom state idea and begin generating newspapers, constitutions, and land maps alongside Madison's Talossan ones. These new countries eventually form an alliance which Verbotten tags The League of Secessionist States (LOSS), a name that will reappear 15 years later on the internet.

September: "Cone Wars". King Robert fights short, victorious war against "Glib Room Empire" of schoolmate Gary Cone. Ián Metairâ becomes US ambassador to Talossa.

December: work begins on the Talossan language.

1981/ii More schoolmates of the King, including Dan Lorentz and Bob Murphy, become interested in Talossa. Lorentz forms "Democratic Dandipratic Party" dedicated to opposing King Robert and destroying Talossa.

September: first Talossan elections held among Madison's friends (now "honorary citizens"). DDP wins 60% of the vote; Lorentz sworn in as first Prime Minister of Talossa. King dismisses PM Lorentz after month of bickering.

1982/iii March: Beginning of "Cheap Glory". King Robert begins process of unilateral annexation of large parts of the world, included large uninhabited slice of Antarctica (named "Pengöpäts").

October: on trip to visit French friend Frederic Corïu, King Robert annexes offshore Breton island of Cézembre.

1983/iv January: Boundaries of Kingdom of Talossa finally stabilised between Edgewood Avenue and the Milwaukee river.

King successively appoints leftist Lorentz and extreme-rightist Metáirâ as Prime Minister, but fails to persuade them to both serve in the same government.

1984/v King Robert first popularises theory that Talossans have an ancestral spiritual connection to Berbers. This theory will go in and out of fashion over the years. Also year of King's conversion to Mormonism - he will drift in and out of various Mormon schisms over the years.

1985/vi April: Talossan approve quasi-democratic "Organic Law". First true multi-party elections in Kingdom to Cosâ (lower house of Talossan legislature). King Robert's Progressive Conservative (PC) party wins absolute majority: Ián Metairâ of the Talossan Nationalist Party (TNP) becomes Prime Minister, as well as editor of Talossan National News (TNN). The rivalry between Støtanneu and TNN will continue for many years.

June: Metáirâ resigns after strong public disapproval of racist statements in his autobiography. King appoints his high school teacher Florence Yarney as new PM.

October: after fresh election, PC-led "grand coalition of the centre" takes office. Frederic Corïu named Prime Minister.

1986/vii Lorentz becomes Premier of Vuode Province (area of Talossa in which the King's family lives). Attempts to force TNP to rename itself "Homosexual Communist League" and threatens secession.

October: Maugey fired as Prime Minister after endorsing Lorentz's call for a Talossan Republic. PC-led coalition takes office under Wes Erni of the "Black Hand" (MN) party. Corïu and Lorentz found joint party: "People United For No King" (PUNK).

November 17: Metáirâ quits Talossa in storm of controversy.

December 5: King Robert meets Robert Dobberpuhl at University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, decides to deflect calls for a republic by putting Dobberpuhl forward as new king.

1987/viii: The Year of Three Kings

January: Dobberpuhl becomes King Robert II after narrow victory in referendum.

March: PUNK win absolute majority in Cosâ election, deposes Robert II after 47-day reign. Talossa becomes "Provisional Peculiar Republic" under Prime Minister Lorentz. Metáirâ returns to Talossa, forms pro-Robert II faction with Madison. Royalist heartland is Vuode province - Lorentz nominates ally Bob Murphy as Governor-General of Vuode to clamp down on royalism.

April 10: Dobberpuhl angrily quits Talossa, claiming that Madison deliberately set him up to fail as King. Florence Yarney becomes new candidate of Talossan royalists.

July 29: Lorentz dissolves Cosâ, renounces republicanism, declares himself for a return of Robert I. PC win absolute majority in subsequent election: Sandee Prachel becomes Prime Minister and Yarney becomes King Florence I. (Later, Florenciâ province will be named after her.)

November: Madison withdraws PC support from Prachel government. King Florence announces intention to abdicate in favour of ex-King Robert I. Lorentz puts up "Bob Fights Ticket", with platform of making Robert Madison king and Robert Murphy Prime Minister in the hope of provoking entertaining conflict. PC and MN fuse as "United Party".

1988/ix February: Bob Fights / United coalition government formed after election. Murphy becomes Prime Minister; Madison "re-crowned" as Robert I (although this is later found to be illegal!) Feuding starts almost immediately.

May 11: UP quits government, changes name back to PC. Murphy assembles new coalition government with all other parties.

July: New Constituziun approved.

September: PC wins landslide victory after Leftist boycott. Lorentz demands that empty seats be set aside in Cosâ to represent non-voters. New citizen Tom Buffone becomes Prime Minister.

Davïu Ardit and Ronált Rosáis, rightist high-school students, become citizens. Orginally known as "Androids" because of friendship with fellow teenage conservative and minor-party leader Andrew Wozniak, are later known collectively as "Davron".

1989/x May: PC wins bare majority; Buffone re-elected.

July: Lorentz publishes "Peculiar Manifesto", setting out principles of Peculiarism. Davron join TNP, but develop unreconcilable differences with Metáirâ; they join the PC at Buffone's invitation. In response, most of the other PC members (including Madison) leave to form new Päts Vräts ("Real Country") party. Davron retain PC name for subsequent election.

July: First "Talossafest" party held. This will become an annual event.

September: PV under Marxist Jack Schneider form coalition government with near-fascist TNP; known as "Hitler-Stalin Pact". Government beset by internal bickering; King engineers defeat of most of Schneider's pet proposals. Collapses noisily at Talossa's 10th Anniversary Party in December. Buffone becomes Prime Minister again; Schneider joins Lorentz's "Peculiar Way" party.
